A simple guide to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) classifications for disabled athletes.
All disability groups can compete in athletics, a system of letters and numbers are used to distinguish the different classifications.
A letter ‘F’ is for field athletes, ‘T’ determines those who compete on the track while the number refers to their disability.

11-13: track and field athletes who are visually impaired
20: track and field athletes who are intellectually disabled
31-38: track and field athletes with cerebral palsy
41-46: track and field amputees and les autres
T 51-56: wheelchair track athletes
F 51-58: wheelchair field athletes

Elevating athletics
Elevating Athletics is a program designed by UK Athletics in partnership with the national education authorities. Specifically designed to develop pupils aged 5-11 in the core physical skills and pupils aged 11-16 in the athletic skills.
The resource is designed to support teachers, in establishing an inclusive pupil-centred approach with maximum participation.
Elevating Athletics consists of a series of lesson plans and best practice advise & guidance encouraging the inclusion of all pupils regardless of ability.
